Rolfing® Structural Integration FAQs

How does Rolfing work?

Rolfing is a hands on approach.  During the session, pressure is applied to the appropriate layer of restriction via fingers, knuckles and elbows. The client and practitioner work together through feedback, breathing and movement to help the tissue to release.

Rolfing Structural Integration was developed as a 10 session series.  Each session works with a different part of the body and has a different goal. The sessions build upon each other to organize the body to be as vertical as possible.

The sessions last 60 to 90 minutes.  The hands on portion averages 75 minutes. Some time is left for body awareness education and exercises.

How are the sessions spaced?

Once a week is ideal but with todays busy lifestyles, every other week or even once a month is acceptable.

What is the cost?  Does insurance cover the cost?

Each session is $110.00. Insurance does not cover Rolfing Structural Integration.  However, clients have been reimbursed from FSA's and HSA's.

Do I have to do all 10 sessions?

You can try the first session or the first 3, to get a feel for the work and then decide if you'd like to proceed with the additional sessions. Call today with questions!

What might I experience during a session?

Rolfing can feel both pleasant and uncomfortable. This depends on the tightness of the tissue being worked and the clients perception. I am attuned to each clients tolerance level and work with them to achieve their individual goals.  I have found the best results come about when the client and myself work as a team with ongoing communication.

What happens after the 10 series?

After an individual has had the initial 10 series, it is suggested that he/she avoid any further deep structural work for 6 months to a year.  This is to allow the body to continue the changes initiated in these first sessions.  The 10 series is typically not repeated.  The changes that occur in Rolfing Structural Integration are long lasting and some people do not feel the need for further work.

We do, however, live our lives and have accidents  or overuse our bodies.  Then a 3 or 5 session tune-up may be highly beneficial.  Some clients do a regular 3 series once or twice a year while others return on an as needed basis.

What are the benefits of Rolfing?

There are many benefits from Rolfing SI.  Many people gain in height as their tissue is lengthened and may appear slimmer.  Chronic pain in the neck and low back and conditions such as elbow tendinitis and plantar fasciitis are often decreased, if not entirely alleviated.  Some individuals report feeling more confident and less stress as their body gets longer and becomes more balanced.
